Adolescent Brain Development Research Study

About:  Researchers in the Neurodevelopmental Laboratory on Addictions and Mental Health at McLean Hospital are partnering with the Boston Children’s Hospital Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research (CeASAR) on a research study to identify milestones of healthy adolescent brain development, and the impact of alcohol use on this process. Potential participants are not required to have used any alcohol or substances to be enrolled in this study. The study will involve one study visit to McLean Hospital per year for three years for an MRI brain scan and to complete a series of surveys and computer tasks.

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • Between the ages of 13-14 years

Compensation: If eligible to participate, you can receive up to $420.

College Student Brain Research Study

About: Researchers in the Neurodevelopmental Laboratory on Addictions and Mental Health at McLean Hospital are looking for healthy volunteers to participate in research examining the effects of alcohol on the brain. Participation includes one appointment during your freshman year, followed by online surveys to be completed in your second and third year. The appointment includes MRI scanning, cognitive tests, and questionnaires.

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • College freshman in a four-year program
  • Between the ages of 18-19
  • Right-handed
  • You do not have to be a heavy drinker to participate or drink alcohol as part of the study.

Compensation:  If eligible to participate, you can receive up to $200. Participants will earn $100 for the first appointment, and then $50 for completion of two follow-up phone/web surveys

Memory, Mood and Brain Research Study

About:  Researchers in the Neurodevelopmental Laboratory on Addictions and Mental Health at McLean Hospital are seeking volunteers to investigate potential links between memory, mood, brain function, and depression. We are recruiting women who have or have not experienced depression. The study will involve an MRI brain scan, and completion of a series of surveys and computer tasks in a single study visit to McLean Hospital.

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • Between the ages of 18-55 years
  • Right-handed
  • Female

Compensation: If eligible to participate, you can receive up to $150.
